HZ by Hissa Zainal

Hello Dubai and the rest of the world!

It’s the start of the work week after the long Eid holiday weekend. What better way to start it than with a gorgeous black jumpsuit by HZ by Hissa Zainal. The fit slightly loose so that you can ease into it after the massive eating on Eid or generally if you like a loose fit. The fabric is of a good quality as it feels really good on the skin something that is important to me in my clothes.

To make it not just another black jumpsuit there are interesting details such as the layering on the front and back, embellishments on the front, wide legged pants. As it’s black you can pretty much pair it with anything. I chose the exotic skin Ella bag by Najla Zuhair and metallic flatforms from Kurt Geiger, which are perfect for the Dubai weather right up until winter hits us. The metallic in the shoe and the chain of the bag gave a subtle twist to the otherwise all black ensemble. If you have any other ideas or suggestions do share.

As always a special thanks to Fashion Exclusive for the gorgeous jumpsuit and bag.👚👖👛💕

Until next kritical post. xoxo.

Parisian Feels in Tulle

Hello from Amsterdam!! This post is being written in Amsterdam while it was shot in our very own Dubai in the Courtyard Al Quoz. To me it feels like a world away from the Dubai I know and I so love this small cute garden of sorts. To me every outfit feels like a story or sometimes a mask or a feeling that you put on and go along with. This one’s enriched in colours and accented with embellishment. Hope you love it just the same as I do. Until next kritical post. xoxo.

Harklinikken Hair Clinic Dubai

Good Morning!!

For most women hair is everything. Your hair style can make or break your look. If you’ve been living in Dubai chances are you’re no stranger to having lost more than half of your hair volume from your Pre- Dubai days. I’m not sure if the exact reason is water, poor eating habits, stress, health or a combination of these but nonetheless I had lost a lot of hair and needed something to stop this before it impacted my confidence.

If you’ve always been blessed with a lot of hair and love your thick hair the lack thereof will impact your confidence every time you look in the mirror. Luckily a friend of mine introduced me to Harklinikken Hair Clinic and my hair related sorrows are disappearing already. I have been taking this treatment for over 6 months and have seen significant growth in my hair line and also my confidence. There was a time when I would hesitate to tie my hair because of the number of gaps I would see but now I don’t anymore because my hair are back in those places and those gaps seem narrower or almost gone.

It may be more expensive than the average stuff you get on the pharmacy shelves but it’s definitely much better than those because it’s customized to the kind of hair loss you’re facing. I’m not great with the technical stuff so you can look up for those details on their websiteHarklinikken Global or Harklinikken Dubai and instagram for more details. It’s quite informative and covers in depth this hair loss treatment and it’s advantages but also talks about other hair loss treatments offered the world over.

The pictures below indicate the order of usage of these products. The extract is what you put on your scalp in areas, where you see the gaps twice in a day with a half hour apart from the first application. This is what promotes hair growth and is essential for progress. I must admit complying with putting this on my hair twice a day was a struggle for me as I have really long days and sometimes couldn’t manage to do so but when my Doctor showed me the difference that took place with little application I was motivated to do it twice a day to see the final result.

You need to wash this extract off everyday and if you have curly hair like mine it isn’t easy but nontheless I try to do it the best I can. Use conditioner just as you would normally. Finish your hair care routine with the hair hydrating creme, which takes fly always, gets rid of friziness and dryness and gives a smooth, polished look without using any harmful products.

I would say that you might find this treatment slightly expensive but given the quality of service, products and the fact that you will get your hair back it’s totally worth it as a once in a lifetime essential expenditure. This was kritical in me getting my confidence back. Definitely worth a try. Until next kritical post. Xoxo

Hello KoCo ME

Hello there!!

This blog post is about new beauty products that I was introduced to by one of my super sweet friends. I have been looking to try Korean beauty products for a while now and perhaps  that desire or want manifested itself. Lol. These products were delivered to me in the cutest packaging ever with the cutest thank you note.

I have been using these products for over a month now and can safely say these products live up to the hype around Korean beauty. It has all the features of a good product showing all the benefits you expect such as proper cleansing, toning, hydrating.

We all usually follow a three or four part beauty regime:

Morning: cleansing, toning,  eye cream, moisturise with a cream / serum, and finally slather on an SPF.

If you want an all in one kind of solution you can replace your moisturizer and SPF with a bb / cc cream / cushion compact / foundation, which have all of the moisturizing properties with the added on correction, coverage and SPF protection you desire. Although I must admit I have observed women with amazing skin in the long term use little to no make up as their skin is allowed to breathe and also it doesn’t create an altered sense of self. On any given day you should love your self with all your flaws.

Afternoon: Face mists / blotting paper / shine control powders

Evening: make up remover ( wipes / micellar water / oil), cleanser, toner, oil bases serum, eye cream

In case you have something to add to that do let me know as I love to add new things to my routine.

The Blossom Jeju Pink Camellia Soombi vitamin face cleanser (pink ink illustrated box on the left ) is perfect to start your day as it removes any residue oil that would have built up over night and gets you looking fresh and ready to kickstart the day. Follow this up with the Whamisa organic flowers toner (pic below). This toner is one of the best I have tried as it leaves your skin pretty clean and kind of hydrated. The best part of it is that is naturally fermented. Follow this up with the Whamisa cream (pic below), which has the most pleasant smell and keeps you hydrated without being too oily and leading to breakouts. It’s just the right balance of moisture that my combination skin needs.

Fermented food is all the rage given that they preserve nutrients in food and contain probiotics and thereby aid digestion. It’s no surprise that fermented skincare is the next big thing, which can be gauged by the selection of Korean products available at Sephora. If something’s good for your tummy then it’s obviously good for your face so it’s no surprise there. The process of fermentation makes the ingredients more concentrated and easy to absorb and products are more effective. If you wanna read more about fermentation click Refinery29 or Today. All Whamisa products are naturally fermented and are BDIH certified, which to a laywoman / layman means the highest quality and standard for natural cosmetics.

My night time routine is pretty similar except that I use the Blossom Jeju Camellia enriched cleansing oil (mustard yellow / brown illustrated box on the right). I take one pump of this cleansing oil and massage it over to remove all the makeup, dirt and impurities that you collect as the day passes by. Follow it up with the Whamisa toner and cream or midnight recovery concentrate serum by Kiehl’s and I’m off to bed. I also use an eye cream but that keeps varying as I like to change them up pretty quick. I have used the famous La Mer to Dr. Dennis Gross to Kiehl’s. Currently on the look out for the next one.

KoCo ME is Dubai’s window into Korean natural and / or organic skincare and the brand strictly stands against animal testing. An added bonus is that currently you can get a discount of 15% off on your entire order when you use the code ‘KRITICIOUS‘ until 31 July.

Whamisa organic flowers toner and cream

Organic flowers olive leaf mist with natural fermentation

Face mists are a welcome sight after  a really long day or generally great to set your make up. I use it usually around mid day to get a refreshed look. I love this one because like it says on the cover you can totally feel the smell of olive leaves and certain smells have the ability to calm you down such as this olive one or even lavender.

These masks are just everything you need. Seriously so hydrating I have seen my skin go from very tired to very hydrated looking within 20 minutes. There is plenty of sheet mask hydrating liquid to go around and you’re advised to use the leftover liquid to dab on your face for extra hydration.

Whamisa organic seeds hair treatment

This hair seed treatment is a must because the environment, coloured hair, blow dries and chlorine if you swim can leave with rough, dehydrated hair. It helps restore moisture back to you hair and leaves them feeling smooth and soft. The body lotion by Whamisa is super moisturizing and is great if you have dry skin or you just want to retain the moisture in your skin. It might sound like I have nothing bad to say because I got to try them for free but I wouldn’t do anything I don’t believe in. It’s not just to say for effect.

Whamisa organic seeds hair treatment and organic fruits body lotion

Before I wrap this up I would like to also mention their sheet masks are everything providing hydration and enrichment. Love love it when you have super tried skin.

Hope you love this kritical post about must have Korean beauty products. It’s my first product review so do let me know what you think of it. Until next kritical post. xoxo

 Anatomi Official

Hello there!

It’s been a while since my  last post. Excuses aside I think you should know about this really amazing designer – Anatomi Official and their fabulous embellished suspender belt. Fashion is always about collecting fabulous accessories that can make simple things look better or perhaps any thing you can build a story around.

Anatomi is so good with details, fabrics, embellishments, delicacy of design. You will spot a lot of love for pastels in their collection and we all know pastels are a girl’s best friend in terms of easy coordination. Anatomi’s clothes will keep you stylish, chic and can take you through a job interview, festivities such as Ramadan, Eid or just be glam as we are in Dubai.

I fell in love this outfit for the choice of pink obviously, the embellishment on the collar, the gorgeous embellished suspender belt, flared trousers. Accented it up a bit with the gorgeous Topshop mules (psst they resemble Gucci ones like a boss) and the fabulous Skin 2 Skin Najla Zuhair exotic bag.

Special attention must also be paid to this gorgeous Najla Zuhair Skin 2 Skin exotic bag that comes in two tones – Rose gold flap on white leather and snake skin on pastel blue. This also comes in a mini version that is the current mainstay of fashionistas the world over.

The best thing about being in the Middle East is that you learn you don’t have to bare it all to look and feel good. We’re lucky to call home the birth place of the modest wear trend seen everywhere these days. Head on over to the blog for more such looks just in time for Eid.

Scroll down for the full look. Hope you enjoy this kritical post. Until next time. xoxo.

Motion Ladies Fitness Center

I love working out as it’s a great outlet for all the stress and craziness that I come across in my job. It makes me feel like me again and also get closer with my real self. As you start adulting you realise you need to keep in touch with your real self and not let it dull your unicorn like outlook in life. I keep looking out for new alternative workouts as I find the gym a little bit boring for now. I stumbled upon Motion Ladies Fitness Center and their selection of alternative workouts catered especially for women courtesy Tish Tash. I ended up trying two classes – Booty Barre and TRX and it was super fun and different. These workouts were amazing because they were fun and effective in working on your core, legs and bum.

Booty Barre

This is super cool because it combines three of my favorite things – ballet, pilates and yoga. It’s quite liberating and debunks a myth that I had that you need to go to the gym to work on your core, legs and bum effectively. It works on balance, isometric strength and brings about a sting that you will be thankful for when you have a toned body at the beach. I think what helps as well is the energy of the people in the class and the instructor.

Cute and super helpful Barre Instructor 🙂

Garima – Ivy Park Body & Zara Tights

TRX

TRX is one of the coolest exercises because I love hanging off of stuff as it somehow feels like I’m flying lol. You can suspend your body and do the usual moves that you would at the gym but just because of the play with gravity you get that extra effect. It develops strength, flexibility, balance and core stability all in one workout. I must admit this is tougher than Barre but definitely worth it. The instructor for this class is super friendly and really good at this too. Super love the room with a lot of creative motivational art work (shall I call it that?) on the back and a whole lot of light coming in.

OOTD: Ivy Park T shirt, Topshop eyelet leggings, Victoria’s Secret sports bra

I would definitely rate this studio as one of the best ones I have been to for the fact that it is calm, it’s a woman only zone (which you can use sometimes), the staff is friendly. You have a great post work out lounge, where you can sip some tea and manage your blood sugar levels with some dates. It’s also super clean and looks rather posh when you compare it to the average gym. It feels more like a sanctuary where you can go, burn some calories and leave off all the negativity / pressure you faced in the day. Dubai is home to many studios but this by far is one of the best ones. It’s also special as it’s a women only place and given the emphasis on women only places these days across the world due to the focus on women supporting each other in their goal towards equality I guess we’re lucky to live in a place where you can find many such places already.

The best part about this shoot / workout was that I got to do it with my best friend / ex flatmate from London. It was so much fun catching up with her and receiving her direction on what is and how to get a good shot done. I can effectively say she directed this shoot. Lol. Perhaps a new career calling for her. I also wish that she could move here so we could have more such moments and also it’s so great to have someone you go way back with in a city that you have lived in for a while but you sometimes still feel so brand new to.

Enough of getting emotional. I would say this place is really kritical to my well being and good vibes. Do hit it up. If I was to rate it I would give it 5 on 5 :). Do check out their website  – Motion Ladies Fitness Center for more details as they offer a variety of other workouts too.

Special thanks to Tish Tash for introducing me to this place and helping me organize this shoot. Do check it out and let me know what you think. Until next kritical post. xoxo.

Kritical Ramadan Edit – Amal Al Raisi & Bthaina

Ramadan is upon us and so are numerous Iftar invites where you would want to look, feel and do good. Take a look at my two picks for Ramadan this time from two fabulous Omani designers – Amal Al Raisi and Bthaina.

  1. Amal Al Raisi

Amal Al Raisi is slowly turning out be an addiction for me. Fabulous and trendy update to the traditional Kaftan with a slit, cute pom pom strings  and luxe velvet in gorgeous oxblood this outfit is super alluring to the eyes. For Ramadan you can pair it with simple and understated leggings in black or some other subtle colour if you’re afraid that you might have an Angelina Jolie leg situation. Lol.

2. Bthaina

Another super creative Omani designer. No, I’m not biased they just happen to be somethings I stumbled upon and fell in love with and I’m sure you will too. This Kaftan is gorgeous and stands out because of its columnesque structure with small pleats, cape sleeves, golden thread work folded back and forth to achieve this geometric gold look on the front. The finishing touch is the belt which can be adjusted to your waist in order to accentuate your curves.

I guess there is no need to say anything when the whole outfit looks so good. So in love with regional designers and their take on the latest trends – bell sleeves, culottes, mini bag, bag on bag, exotic leather, season appropriate colour palette and print. Checks every box and uber breezy to wear.

Clothes: Amal Al Raisi.

Big and small bag: Najla Zuhair who’s totally nailing the mini bag on big bag trend in exotic leather.

Gucci like shoes: Topshop

Collab with Dulaab

All things Scandinavian are so big in design so it’s no shocker that when Dulaab hit the shores all fashionistas in Dubai went crazy.

Two looks created as part of my collab with Dulaab by the wonderful team and Fashion Exclusive UAE.

Look 1

Well like most things style is about putting together things that make you feel super good about in terms of fabrics, prints, trends. Cause something on someone else might not really be your thing.

I fell in love with the sleeves of the coat and the general slightly androgynous styling of it all and then the top and the pants just followed cause it all fit in somehow.

Coat: Donata by Baum Und Pferdgarten

Sequin Top & Striped Pants: Georgia Top & Vinnie Pants by Stine Goya

Embellished heels: Kurt Geiger (My own)

Love the very dreamy photos by @mufasaworld

Look 2

This was kind of inspired by Gucci as everything else in my wardrobe usually is.

Printed Jumper with fabulous sleeves: Christie by Baum Und Pferdgarten

Pleated Skirt: Saxona by Baum Und Pferdgarten

Jewellery: Maria Black, who btw makes really functional jewellery. Super light and great cause of the simple geometry of her designs. Easy to wear everyday. 👌🏼👌🏼

Pyjama Trend….

Winters are kinda still here and surprisingly so even in Dubai and I take this opportunity to be as comfy and stylish as possible in super posh looking pyjamas from Topshop. Super soft satiny fabric, great print and perfect fit give this pyjama just  enough style points to not feel out of place anywhere. Try it out to be super stylish and cosy this winter inside and outside your home. As with any other thing accessories are key. Until next kritical post. xoxo.
